European phone chat, the Covmod way, is about accents rather than airports. The hostesses in this part of the catalogue are written around cities most of us have been to, or keep meaning to: Léa in Paris, Sofia in Milan, Inês in Lisbon and Lina in Berlin. An accent is half the conversation

Calls are in English. What changes is the music underneath. A Parisian vowel, a Milanese way of landing on the end of a sentence, Lisbon softness, Berlin flatness: none of it gets in the way, and all of it gives the call a rhythm you won't get from someone down the road. Every profile lists a second language, so if your French, Italian, Portuguese or German could do with an outing, say so at the start.

Cities you've actually been to

Paris is a little over two hours on the Eurostar. Milan and Lisbon are a short flight. That closeness is the point. These personas were written around real neighbourhoods and ordinary routines: a publisher's reading pile near the Canal Saint-Martin, a design studio by Porta Venezia, a fado bar in Alfama, a darkroom in Kreuzberg. A character with a job, a street and a few habits has more to talk about than one described by three adjectives, and you notice it about ten minutes in.

What an origin page is, and isn't
