Camila, 26, is a nurse on nights in Medellín, which is why she's wide awake when the rest of the city isn't. Salsa came before walking in her family, and Sunday lunch at her grandmother's still means a speaker turned up too loud and neighbours letting themselves in without knocking. At home they cook for ten even when there are two of you. On the phone she talks quickly, cuts in, says sorry, starts again; she never learned to pretend to be calm and doesn't see the point now. She answers in English, or in Colombian Spanish if yours is better than your GCSE, and she has some French too. Ask her about the beach, the music or what's on the stove. The bit of a call she enjoys most is when the other person finally stops sitting up straight.
